Modular workbenches and workstations from All Metal Designs, (AMD) are “Operator Adjustable™” and are of ergonomically sound design for people of all heights, allowing employees to work more comfortably and efficiently. This combination of modular design and height adjustability can help reduce the pain associated with continuous and repetitious movements on labor-intensive jobs. Using workstation ergonomics to design the right modular workbench for the operator and the job is critical in today’s business environment.

This is how to design an AMD modular ergonomic workstation to fit your requirements:



 1.   Determine Your Weight Requirements
Determine how much weight the workbench / workstation will be required to lift (i.e., the “dynamic lift capacity” that will be needed). Be sure to include the weight of all fixtures, components and tooling that will be positioned on the worksurface.


 2.   Select a Base for the Workbench
Choose one of our Pedestal, Four-Legged or NEW “Z” Bases, depending on the weight requirements, the size of worksurface needed, and the preferred method of adjustability (i.e., manual, electric).


 3.   Add Base Options
In addition to either manual or electric drives, AMD’s Operator Adjustable™ Workstations can be equipped with a number of options such as tilt tops, footrest, and casters. (All base options must be incorporated into units as they are built, and therefore must be specified at the time the initial order is placed.)


 4.   Choose a Worksurface
AMD’s standard worksurfaces include:
  • 1-1/8” High-Pressure Laminate (standard T-mold or bullnose)
  • 1-3/4” Maple (bullnose)
  • 1/4" Steel (powder coated)


 5.   Select an Upright or Overhead Frame for Accessories
The selection of an upright or overhead frame depends on the number and type of tools and accessories that will be needed. (Overhead frames are required when tools are used with balancers, or when overhead lighting is required. Upright frames can be used to accommodate accessories such as bin rails, tack boards and electric bars.) All AMD bases are designed with receiver pockets which permit the addition or substitution of either upright or overhead frames at any time.


 6.   Select Appropriate Accessories for Your Modular Ergonomic Workbench - Workstation

   AMD’s most popular accessories include:
  • Overhead Tool Rail

  • Tack Boards
  • Parts Bin Boards and Parts Bin Rails
  • Electric Bars (120 Volt)
  • Upper and Lower Shelves
